Turn It Up Tuesday!

Let me apologize in advance for the time you may end up wasting on this site.

It’s a database of over 22,000 television theme songs and music.

Got a favorite show from your childhood or from many years ago? How about the theme from Dark Shadows, or The Man From U.N.C.L.E.? Maybe you liked Get Smart or Max Headroom? Perhaps Daktari, The Jackie Gleason Show or Wagon Train?

They’re all here, and many many more. Have fun!

Turn It Up Tuesday!

This week’s “Turn It Up Tuesday” revisits a band I featured back on April 12th, ZED. A few things have happened since that post.

I’ve exchanged several emails with the guys in the band, and we discussed the idea of starting a street team. This eventually led to a conference call where we discussed the idea further. I’m pleased to report that we’ve got the framework in place and launched ZEDHEADS.org, home of the ZED Street Team.

If the verbage (and promotional ideas) look familiar to some of you, it should. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I’ve recycled many of the things I used for the Joe Bonamassa Street Team back in the day. Thanks to “The Internet Archive Wayback Machine” (and some help from Jane Hall) I’ve been able to retrieve much of the material from the old JB Fan Website that’s been offline for years. I was kind of fun to go back and review that old website.

But anyway, back on topic. I’m really looking forward to giving the guys in ZED a hand. I absolutely love their music. It’s a brand of rock that truly bridges the gap between the classic rock of my era and today’s metal bands. Ever since I heard them on Youtube and bought their CD I’ve been hooked.

I was fortunate enough to preview the songs the guys have planned for their sophmore release, and they’re outstanding! ZED is heading back to the studio in about a month to start laying down tracks for their next album.

I also love these guy’s sense of humor. Check out this page on ZEDHEADS.org which features Youtube videos for each song on their debut album, “The Invitation.” The comments contained in the “Star Wars” scrolling text at the start of each song will give you an idea about just how much fun these guys are.

So yes, I’ve put my street team hat back on again – and it still fits! Let the fun begin.

Turn It Up Tuesday!

It’s been a while since a Turn It Up Tuesday episode has really warranted being turned up. Well, that’s about to change. Check out these 3 cuts from “Zed” whose debut album The Invitation is scheduled for release this Spring.

I’ve had some trouble being able to locate any information about them online. It appears there is another band out there that goes by the name Zed. The Myspace and Facebook pages I found for Zed are for a different band, and I haven’t been able to find a traditional website for them either.

(Edit/Update: See comments)

Maybe one of the band members subscribes to Google alerts for Zed, and will see this post and pay us a visit here. I’d love to hear from these guys and have them bring us up to speed with what they’re doing. This stuff rocks!

Enjoy, and Turn It Up!

Turn It Up Tuesday!

Yes, I know it’s a day late…but I couldn’t wait until next Tuesday to publish this.

Alabama Shakes is a band to watch this year. Their debut album Boys and Girls will be released this coming Tuesday, April 10th. It’s an impressive and refreshing offering, with an organic sound and a loose-tight vibe that’s reminiscent of classic Rolling Stones.

Here’s the official video for single, Hold On

Also, click here (while you can) to listen to the entire album online!

Turn It Up Tuesday!

Hammond B3 Organs and Leslie Speakers – gotta love ‘em.

In the first video below, this was recorded with nothing but a Sony T-Series digital camera with no external microphone…

Next we have a little blues improv…

And lastly, Jon Lord – the man responsible for my love of the sound and tone of the Hammond B3 and Leslies…

Enjoy, and Turn It Up!

Turn It Up Tuesday!

Stuck somewhere between Van Halen, Motley Crue, Poison and the other ‘Hair’ metal bands of the day was Great White. The spotlight never shined on them quite as brightly as it did their contemporaries, possibly because they lacked the pretty-boy good lucks of their peers. No matter the reason, they remain a guilty pleasure of mine. Jack Russell is an amazing vocalist, and their album Once Bitten is one of the best of that subgenre.

Here’s a few cuts from that excellent record. Enjoy, and crank it up!
